PRIX FRANÇOIS-HOUDÉ 2016
November 24, 2016, to February 18, 2017
This year, the City of Montreal, in collaboration with the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec is presenting the prix François-Houdé finalists. On this occasion, a large exhibition will be held from November 24, 2016, to February 18, 2017, at the Guild in Montreal (1460-B, Sherbrooke Street West). It's a great opportunity to come discover the eight finalist artisans' works for 2016, as well as works from two finalists of the last two years. These awards are celebrating their twentieth year this year.
The prix François-Houdé awards were launched in 1996 by the city of Montreal in collaboration with the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec. The goal behind these awards is to promote excellence in Montreal fine craft creations and to enable the dissemination of young craftspeople's arts. The award, which comes with a $5,000 prize, highlights the remarkable craftsmanship that these creations demonstrate and their original contribution to the practice of a fine craft. Whether it be the transformation of woods, textiles, metals, glass, ceramics, papers, or other materials, the awards recognize the mastery of exploratory techniques inherent to the artisans' respective disciplines.
